Russ Manney - Head Coach

It's amazing to me that these past few years are over. It seems like yesterday that I started working with you at wrestling or watching you participate and cheering you on at the Little League fields.

All of you have been in my home, and as others in the past, have become a big part of our family.

But the difference is, that most of you have been my son's friends for many years.

Believe me when I say no one could be prouder, no one could be happier, and no one could be more excited over the accomplishments you have made during your athletic careers at Wellsboro High School. I would like to thank you for making my job a lot easier. Keep up the good work and use these experiences and lessons learned with all your future endeavors.

Senior Football Players

Arturo Alvarez - K

Arturo Alvarez

What a great opportunity for Arturo to compete in the number one sport in the United States. He did a fine job of trying to learn the game. It was a pleasure having him experience Wellsboro High School football at its finest.

Bill Callahan - OL/DL

Bill Callahan

One of several three year starters that will be greatly missed in 1996. Without a doubt, the finest center to play the game at Wellsboro High School. Combine that with being one of the best defensive ends in the league, and you have one outstanding football player. He also has the distinction of being the first player I've coached whose dad played for me.

Dave Edler - OL/DL

Dave Edler

His love for the game and his desire to succeed developed Dave into a consistent football player. His ability to play several positions allowed us more flexibility on the offense. His positive attitude and work ethic was second to none.

Andy Harmon - OL/LB

Andy Harmon

What a great worker! One of the most dedicated, hard-working young men on the field. Not much of a talker - he just gets the job done! Tested out as our strongest overall player. Proof positive of what a "never give up" attitude can do.

Audie Holsombach

Persistent! Audie's improvement over the past years shows a great deal of persistence to make this team. I really enjoyed watching Audie develop into a player and contribute to this team.

Rob Kreger - OL/DL

Rob Kreger

Strong, tough, hard-nosed, smart, and a little crazy. All the attributes of a great leader and lineman, and these could all be used to label Rob. His ability to focus and concentrate on the task at hand gave this three year starter an edge over the competition week after week.

Bill Linder - OL/DL

Bill Linder

His size, speed, and athletic ability may not make him a division one prospect, but his heart, determination, and his tenacious, competitive attitude makes him one of the most hard-nosed athletes I've ever coached. One of the many reasons our first team "D" gave up so few points.

Jared Mahon - FB/LB

Jared Mahon

His great ability to think quickly, change direction, and outwork his opponents made Jared one of the best football players ever to play the game at Wellsboro High School. His physical and mental toughness will allow him to contribute greatly to the next level of competition. A captain that led by example.

Russ Manney - RB/DB

Russ Manney

Stepped in at tailback this year and smashed all records. His speed, agility, and physical strength came from years of hard work. Combine this with quick reaction and decision making, and you have a total football player. It was a pleasure coaching him, but it's more of a pleasure being his dad!

Jay Young - QB/DB

Jay Young

We knew Jay had all the attributes of a great high school athlete, but would he develop the confidence to use it? A resounding "Yes," as he drove the 1995 offensive scoring machine to record performance. He also developed into the best one-on-one coverage defensive back in the district.
