1996 Gridders Club Senior Banquet
Senior Football Players
Scot Boyce - WR/DB
After just two years of varsity, Scot filled the gap in our defensive unit. This allowed us to produce the top-rated defense in the NTL. He was always ready to do what was asked of him in order to help the team.
Tony Dinsmore - TE/LB
If height and weight were the only criteria used in selecting starters, Tony would have been overlooked. But toughness, desire to win, and a great knowledge of the game overcame all the above. He was a two-year starter and a key in the best linebacking corp in the district.
Paul Grega - OL/DL
Paul's talent of blocking and centering the football took a lot of worry away from the coaching staff. He followed a three-year starter at his position and never faltered! His ability to take on linebackers and defensive tackles marked him as one of the top at his position.
Ron Kemp - OL/DL
Ron had all the ability to be a good football player. He proved that his toughness and persistence were strong points in overcoming and keeping focused after his accident this fall. He did a fine job on our special teams and always set a good example of "never giving up."
Matt Kennedy - RB/DB
Great ability to avoid would-be-tacklers, combined with speed, made Matt one of the most feared running backs in the area. This, combined with his ability to catch the ball, will allow him to be successful at the next level of competition.
Nate Lawton - OL/LB
Nate's ability to work hard and keep motivated under tough conditions made him an example to others that hard work pays off. Nate's sacrifices to be part of the 1996 squad will always be remembered by his teammates and the coaching staff.
John Lundgren - QB/LB
He may be short in stature, but not in talent! His ability and leadership, combined with patience, allowed him to direct one of our strongest offensive attacks on the ground. Displaying a great attitude, even in the face of adversity, gave him the edge.
Mitch Marzo - RB/LB
Mitch, without a doubt, kept things exciting! His personality helped to keep things loose, even in tense situations. His ability to block, run around, and run over the opponent made our offense what it was - tough! His skills and talents are certain to be useful at the next level of competition.
Ed Murphy - WR/DB
If you are looking for a stereotypical football player, Ed is definitely not your man! This tall, soft-spoken, and polite young man off the field became as tough as anybody on the field. His work ethic persisted throughout the year, in the weight room, and on the track gave him the edge over his opponents.
Duane Stocum - OL/DL
Being a three sport athlete made this big guy a force to be reckoned with. After sitting out his Sophomore year, he returned to football and earned a starting spot as a Junior. He will be greatly missed in 1997.
Rolando Suarez - K
It is exciting to see someone that has never played or seen the game of football get involved in America's greatest game. It was equally exciting to see Rolando improve each week of the season. I really believe his experiences on the football field will be some of the greatest memories of his exchange student experience.
Matt Sweet - OL/LB
This is one tough football player! His strength and knowledge of the game just frustrated opposing team's offenses. He combined with Tony, Matt, and John to make the best linebacking corp in the NTL and District 4. Matt will do an outstanding job at the next level of play.
