Russ Manney - Head Coach

When I think about the seniors on this year's football team, I go back to the beginning of our season, January. At that time, I sat down with every player individually. I explained thoroughly how I evaluated their 2001 performances, how I intended to use them this year, what I expected of them during the off-season, and what it would take for us to have a successful season in 2002.

From that point on, the majority of our seniors did what I asked them to improve their play and "buy into" the program. I think this senior class set the tone and began to believe that they could compete against anyone on the playing field. When practice officially started in August, we found ourselves ahead of the game. Consequently, our summer camps and competitions paid off.

Even though our record was not as impressive as we hoped for, these seniors never gave up. They fought every battle and represented the community, the school district, the coaching staff, their parents, and themselves with dignity and class. I wish them much success in all their future endeavors.

Senior Football Players

Todd Beard - WR/LB

Todd Beard

Todd showed a lot of hard work and dedication during the season. He led our special teams and his catch in the Canton game for a crucial first down was the turning point of the ball game. His determination and dedication allowed us to utilize him at different positions throughout the season to help strengthen the team.

Doug Champaign - OL/DL

Doug Champaign

Doug broke into the starting lineup this year and provided us with the size we needed to be successful at running the ball. He handled constructive criticism very well throughout the season and kept a positive attitude everyday. This helped him become a better football player and helped our offense to succeed.

Nate Compton - TE/DL

Nate Compton

Nate's physical size and ability contributed much to the success of our team. We used him at different positions on defense and he always showed the same work ethic no matter what we asked him to do. With hard work and dedication, Nate should be able to go on to the next level.

Matt Coxford - OL/DL

Matt Coxford

Matt really started to come into his own this season. His off-season work ethic and dedication to making himself a better player paid off. Matt was selected to be one of our captains this season. Most of our rushing yards came over him or he as trapping opponents to our backside. We hope to see Matt represent Wellsboro on the college level next season.

Tyler DeLeonardis

Tyler was one of the most dedicated seniors in our program. If the weight room were open seven days a week, he would be there. His ability to play several positions allowed us to move him into a role that best served to the team's advantage. Jumping into the role of quarterback for the last two games helped keep our depth at that crucial position.

Blake Ingerick - OL/DL

Blake Ingerick

Blake was also a player that we could use at different positions, both offensively and defensively. As one of our captains, more was expected of him and he responded well to the pressure and demands throughout the season. Most of our rushing plays ran behind him or he was pulling to lead the way.

Tom Jones - TE/DL

Tom Jones

Tom is the epitome of the "silent type." He played our rush end this season in our new defensive scheme and had to handle most of the roll out quarterbacks and counter plays. Tom always played to the best of his ability and contributed much to the success of our defense. A man of little words, Tom worked hard to contribute week after week.

Matt Priset - RB/DB

Matt Priset

Matt was selected to be a captain this season and was also carrying the pressures of being the "go to guy" on offense and defense. His physical size could not match the heart he showed most of the season. He was one of the top offensive and defensive players in the league. Matt's hard work and dedication paid off as he lived up to all the expectations of the coaching staff.

Seth Rockwell - WR/DB

Seth Rockwell

Seth is a great example of why players should start earlier to play football. After only two seasons of football, Seth has become one of the leading wide receivers in the league. His confidence this year has really helped him to be a threat every time he entered the game.

Derrick Smith - WR/DB

Derrick Smith

Derrick was chosen as one of our captains because of his dedication during the season and off-season. After pre-season practice he was injured and spent most of the first half of the season fighting his way back. His determination to break back into the starting lineup paid off and he was able to return and strengthen our secondary and depth at the receiver position.

Scott Tokarz - OL/DL

Scott Tokarz

Scott contributed to our special teams throughout the season. A dedicated player during the season, he worked hard getting the team prepared week to week, contributing in whatever capacity the coaches asked.

Kirk Wheeler - OL/DL

Kirk Wheeler

Kirk, for the last two seasons, has hard his share of injuries. Each time that he started to break into a bigger role for the team, injuries set him back. Always with a positive attitude, Kirk worked hard at several different positions and anchored the special teams units.
