Wellsboro Hornets

Russ ManneyWhen I think about the seniors on this year's football team, I go back to the beginning of our season, January. At that time, I sat down with every player individually. I explained thoroughly how I evaluated their 2001 performances, how I intended to use them this year, what I expected of them during the off-season, and what it would take for us to have a successful season in 2002.

From that point on, the majority of our seniors did what I asked them to improve their play and "buy into" the program. I think this senior class set the tone and began to believe that they could compete against anyone on the playing field. When practice officially started in August, we found ourselves ahead of the game. Consequently, our summer camps and competitions paid off.

Even though our record was not as impressive as we hoped for, these seniors never gave up. They fought every battle and represented the community, the school district, the coaching staff, their parents, and themselves with dignity and class. I wish them much success in all their future endeavors.
