Chris Morral - Head Coach

This group of seniors was among the finest group of young men we have had within the program at Wellsboro. I can remember the first day of summer camp when these young men were coming into camp as ninth graders all the way up to the last practice, last game, and even their last plays.

Some of these guys did not possess outstanding natural athletic ability but they made up for that with the desire to play the game and an outstanding attitude towards the game.

Many coaches agree that the game of football is 85% mental and 15% physical. Every team has athletes who are bigger, faster, and stronger than the opponents. Every team has skilled players as well as aggressive offensive and defensive linemen. One thing that every team does not have is a great attitude to play the game and an attitude that strives to always do your best no matter what the situation calls for.

As this past season started there was without a doubt, very high expectations of this group of seniors. Talk among the football community was intense and talk among the players themselves was competitive. As the season passed, it was obvious that this group of seniors wanted to be a part of something special. These guys were always willing to do whatever it took to get to that point. Although the team fell short of qualifying for playoffs, this group of seniors can leave the program knowing they did everything they could to help their teammates.

Individually, each of you will face challenges and adversity. As I have told every senior football player leaving the program from my first year of coaching was to remember one thing. "You're always working to play a perfect game, but you're never going to achieve it and play that perfect game. Out on the field you never know which play is going to be that one that can change the complexion of the game. You've just got to play every play to the best of your ability. You should look back and have no regrets about how you performed and how hard you worked at it."

The coaching staff wishes these young men the best of luck in all future challenges and as always wishes them the best of luck in the most important game of all, LIFE!

Remember, you will not always play that perfect game, but play every play and every day to the best of your ability and you will have no regrets.

Senior Football Players

Colton Acorn - WR/DL

Colton Acorn

It was obvious from the start of the 2007 that Colton was serious about the game of football and even more serious about the success of the team. Entering the season, Colton was mentioned in the pre-season players to watch list in the Twin-Tiers as well as the NTL. With that said, Colton did not disappoint. Throughout 10 games in 2007, Colton compiled 560 yards receiving with 33 catches and 7 touchdowns. Defensively,Colton recorded 30 solo tackles, 8 assists, 9 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries for touchdowns. I can honestly say that Colton became a great football player throughout the course of the 2007 season. He was fun to watch and had a great attitude. I wish Colton the best of luck in the future and hope he can continue in life with his great attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed. Good luck!

Sam Bellinger - RB/LB

Sam Bellinger

The 2007 season for Sam was as frustrating as losing the last two games of the season was for the coaching staff. Sam dedicated his summer to working out, lifting, pushing cars, and preparing for the 2007 season. Unfortunately, during 7-on-7 scrimmages at Lycoming team camp, Sam suffered a knee injury that set him out of the first 5 games of the season. It was at our first home game versus South Williamsport when I knew exactly how hard it was for Sam to not be on the field playing. During warm-ups Sam stood next to the goalpost with tears in his eyes. As a coach, it was sad to see a player not be able to play due to injury. As a player, it is the most valuable lesson you can learn and that is you should play every play to the best of your ability because you never know which one is going to be your last. For Sam, it was motivation. For that reason, I believe Sam will experience tremendous success in life. His hard work, dedication, and willingness to overcome adversity was obvious. Good luck!

Clay Collins - RB/LB

Clay Collins

Throughout the summer of 2007 there was not one athlete more dedicated than Clay Collins. Clay was continuously in the weight room and participated in every summer practice we had. Clay played a special role on the team in 2007 as he contributed significantly on special teams and had a significant amount of time at linebacker. The one thing in which I will never forget about Clay is his willingness to do whatever is asked of him. Clay wanted to play halfback but didn't have the skills required to play halfback. Nevertheless, Clay never quit trying and always made the best of every situation. I can remember one practice later in the year when Clay said to me, "Coach, all I want to do is get one carry." Clay got the call numerous times against Cowanesque and made the best of the situation. Clay has a never give up attitude and worked hard to become the best he could be. For that reason, Clay was respected by his teammates and coaches. If Clay can continue on this path he will experience great success. Good luck!

Chris Copp - OL/DL

Chris Copp

Chris was a four-year starter within the football program at Wellsboro. It was an honor to coach Chris and see the development of a boy into a young adult throughout four years playing football. Prior to the 2007 season, Chris was selected as a pre-season player to watch in the NTL. As the 2007 season progressed, Chris became increasingly intense. Throughout the season, Chris accumulated 39 solo tackles, 12 assists, 2 caused fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 7.5 sacks. Along with Chris' ability to play the game was an outstanding attitude. As a coach it was always nice to hear Chris make a joke or lighten the situation at key times. Chris has a great desire to succeed and always played the best he could. Chris became a fine football player over the four years in the program. My most vivid memory of Chris took place at Towanda after he received a concussion late in the game. While asking Chris simple questions and getting no clear response, it was determined he would not be able to play again in that game. It was at that stage in his career that Chris realized what football was all about and from that day forward Chris became intense and played the best he could each and every play. Good luck in all that you do in the future and thank you for a great career at Wellsboro!

Will Cornell - OL/DL

Will Cornell

Will Cornell is a perfect example of a team player. Early in Will's football career Will believed and was determined to be a quarterback. As time progressed, Will became larger than his classmates but still had the ability to move very well. During Will's junior season with the program, Will showed very positive signs of becoming a fine football player. Entering the 2007 season, the coaching staff was impressed with his overall ability and improvement he had made from the previous season. In 2007, Will was used sparingly on defense but still recorded 19 solo tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 sacks. There is no doubt Will's attitude was contagious and as a coach I could not have asked for anything more from Will. Whenever we needed something from Will, we could count on it getting done. As a coach it was an honor and a pleasure coaching Will throughout his four years at Wellsboro. Will's attitude on and off the field was great and as a football player he improved greatly throughout his four years. At times throughout the season the coaching staff would try to figure out ways to make him mad in order to take his frustration out on the opponent but it just never happened. Will will be missed greatly in the future and his willingness to do whatever helped the team and his commitment to getting better is second to none. I wish Will the best of luck in the future and know that if he continues in life with the attitude he has had in football, he will have success no matter what he decides to do.

Patrick Eaton - WR/DB

Patrick Eaton

Throughout the summer of 2007 Patrick Eaton proved to the coaching staff that no matter how small you are, you can make up for it with the size of your heart. Patrick entered the 2007 football season not knowing where he would find himself fitting in. After team camp and in the beginning of summer camp, Patrick became one of the biggest surprises of the year. Patrick accumulated 45 solo tackles, 13 assists, 3 interceptions, 6 pass breaks, 1 caused fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 sack. Opponents quite often tried picking on Patrick because of his size but quickly found out that Patrick was not going to allow that to happen. Throughout the 2007 season it was incredible to watch Patrick make play after play. I will never forget the time Patrick got beat around the outside in our game with Sayre and recovered to make a tackle on an opponent twice the size of him with one arm. To our younger athletes, Patrick is an excellent role model with a great attitude. I wish Patrick the best of luck in the future and in life. If Patrick can continue in life with his great attitude and determination to succeed he will experience great success in whatever he chooses to do. Good luck!

Sean Gleason - RB/LB

Sean Gleason

Sean is an athlete that refuses to give up. Throughout the course of the season, Sean was asked to step into games and do the job in the backfield during key situations on many different occasions. Many times Sean found himself undersized but I can never remember a time when Sean complained about other players and just did whatever was asked of him throughout the season. Week in and week out Sean was on the offensive scout team and play after play Sean would give his best. For this reason, Sean is a role model for younger athletes as a team player. Sean always chose to do what was best for the team. Even though Sean was limited to special teams, Sean always gave his best. It is for that reason that Sean is an outstanding individual and I wish him the best in the future. Good luck!

Zack Renner - OL/DL

Zack Renner

When it comes to playing the game of football, overcoming adversity is always important throughout the course of a game and/or season. Zack was a player who always seemed to help his teammates overcome adversity. For himself, Zack was always at a disadvantage on the offensive line due to his size. With that said, Zack never complained one time and always seemed to just get the job done. It didn't seem to matter what was going on in the game, Zack always played the game with consistency and didn't need to say a word for others to know what he was thinking. For this reason, Zack is a role model to our younger athletes for his willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team. As a coach it was always nice having a Zack around because you could count on him to get the job done no matter what. Zack's attitude is second to none and I wish Zack the best of luck in the future. Good luck!

Chad Shultz - TE/DB

Chad Shultz

When it comes to playing the game of football, attitude is very important. When I think of Chad Shultz, I think of a guy that has an attitude that is second to none. In games, during practice, and on the sidelines, Chad never displayed negative emotion. Chad was always very positive with other players and was always the first player to encourage younger players. For this reason, Chad proved to be a valuable asset to our program in 2007. In addition to being very positive, Chad always showed a great attitude and never gave up. During our North Penn game, Chad was asked to step in to take over the punting duties after an injury to our first team punter. As a coach, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Chad stepped in, did his job, and took pride in doing it. After the game I spoke to Chad and told him I was proud of what he did and told him he did an excellent job. I hope Chad can continue on in life with this attitude and remember to be himself and never give up. Chad never gave up throughout his high school football career and Chad was an athlete that football had a huge impact on. Chad will never forget the memories of playing high school football and his contributions were greatly appreciated. Good luck!
