Wellsboro gets first 'W' of season
September 23, 2006 Ed WeaverAfter an 0-3 start to the 2006 season, the Wellsboro Green Hornets took to the newly finished Lockhart Street Bowl Friday night in Sayre, Pennsylvania. After Sayre scored on their first possession of the night, led by Running Back Andy Podolinski, the Green Hornets took over and put up their first points of the contest on the following drive.
Wellsboro splits 1-1 vs. Athens
September 19, 2006 Ed WeaverAthens picked up their second win of the year Friday night, shutting out Wellsboro, 42-0. The game was played under damp conditions, but the Hornet offense was unable to put any points on the board. Athens returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and never looked back the rest of the game. The Wellsboro offense looked good at times, but inconsistent play and up front pressure caused the Hornet's offense to sputter.
Canton sweeps Wellsboro
September 13, 2006 Ed WeaverCanton was able to notch their first win in the NTL Friday night in their game against Wellsboro. Canton was able to score early in the first half, but then allowed the Hornets to get back into the game with a costly fumble on their own five-yard line. The Hornet defense played tough in the second quarter, but a long screen play allowed Canton to kick a field goal before time expired in the first half. Canton's defense was able to withstand the Hornet's offense, and held on to win the contest, 17-7.
Making A Buzz
September 7, 2006 Chris MasseSouth Williamsport fullback Patton Bartholomew was stopped, but he kept churning his legs. He carried four Wellsboro defenders on his back and gained an extra five yards.
JV gets revenge
September 6, 2006 Ed WeaverLast night, the Wellsboro Green Hornet Junior Varsity team opened their season against South Williamsport. Throughout the entire game, the Hornets dominated South, shutting them out 36-0. Also, first year coaches Craig Christman, Ryan Plunkert, and Ed Weaver picked up their first career wins at the high school level. Congratulations to the team and coaches for their efforts.
Hornets lose tough one to South
September 2, 2006 Ed WeaverLast night, the Wellsboro Green Hornets traveled to South Williamsport to face the Mounties. The entire game was a defensive struggle, with neither team allowing any points at half time. However, second half turnovers and failed conversion attempts plagued the Hornets the rest of the game.
