The first week of the District 4 Playoffs are now in the bag. Of the five Northern Tier League teams making a trip to the 2008 post-season, Athens will be the only team moving on to round two of the playoffs.
The 2008 Wellsboro Green Hornets ended their season Saturday night after loosing to the Athens Wildcats 43-6 in the first round of the District 4 Class AA Playoffs. The Hornets end the season with a 7-4 record and finished third in the NTL Large School Division behind Athens and Towanda.
The 1958 Varsity Roster has just been released. The team, who 50 years ago, went undefeated under former head coach Bill Johnson after returning to the field for the first time in over 20 years finished with a 5-0-1 record with the only non-win coming against Canton in the final game of the year. The winners of the 2008 Wellsboro Gridders Club and Small Fry raffle drawing from last week's game with North Penn have just been announced. The names appear in bold next to the package on the Gridders Club page under the fundraiser section.
With 20 tackles in last week's game with North Penn (tied for third all-time in Wellsboro Histroy)*, Junior Linebacker Aaron Moss is now tied for fourth in the state for combined tackles according to MaxPreps.com. The 2008 PIAA Football Playoff schedule has just been released. Wellsboro will be making its first playoff appearance since 1995 at Athens on Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. The rest of the games are listed below:

The 2008 regular season is over, and the Morton Jones Trophy is back at Wellsboro. The Hornets defeated rival North Penn 28-7. The Hornets got on the board first when Senior Quarterback Cameron Jones setup a screen pass to Senior Fullback Pat Driebelbies to put the Hornets up 7-0.

The 1994 Varsity Roster is now available. The Hornets were led that year by 1,000 yard rusher Ian Carson and Erick Crawford. The 1994 Hornets finished 5-6 on the year under former head coach Russ Manney.
With one week left in the 2008 regular season, all roads are pointing to Mount Carmel for the District 4 Class AA Championship. Wellsboro currently sits in seventh place, only 10 points out of the fifth place tie between Hughesville and Towanda. View the entire District 4 standings.

Jones has also tied Kyle Norton for third place all-time with Touchdown Passes in a Single Season with 8. Senior Receiver Garrett Stager is now tied for third all-time with Chase Kriner for Touchdown Receptions in a Single Season with 4.
