Hornets Hang Tough against Towanda
October 7, 2008 Ed WeaverThe J.V. Hornets put up a great fight in their game Monday night against Towanda, but came up short in the final minutes, 20-14. Wellsboro got on the board first by a Nathan Bair interception return for a touchdown, and hung on to a 14-7 lead at the half. However, two costly turnovers propelled the Black Knights past the Hornets in the final minute of the game.

Week 6 Updates
October 5, 2008 Ed WeaverWith week 6 in the books for the 2008 season, Canton is the only undefeated team at 6-0. The Warriors decimated Montgomery 49-0 on Saturday. South Williamsport also picked up their first win of the season, as they defeated Sayre 28-6.
Hornets Fall to Towanda
October 4, 2008 Ed WeaverThe Wellsboro Hornets traveled to Towanda to take on the Black Knights Friday October 3. Towanda jumped out in front of the Hornets early and took a 25-0 lead into halftime. Wellsboro was able to avoid the shutout as Sophomore Running Back Ryan Moss scored first for the Hornets after a long setup run by Senior Running Back Jake Coolidge.

Moss Ranked Top 10 in State for Tackles
October 1, 2008 Ed WeaverJunior Linebacker Aaron Moss is ranked in the Top 10 in the state of Pennsylvania in tackles. Moss currently sits in ninth place with 68 combined tackles in the first half of the season according to MaxPreps.com. Visit MaxPreps.com's Pennsylvania Football Section for more.

September 30, 2008 Ed WeaverLast Thursday, former Super Bowl champion Lee Rouson of the New York Giants stopped at the Lighthouse to speak with the Hornets before they did battle against Sayre. The Gridders Club and all members of the football program would like to extend a big thank you to Lee for taking time out of his schedule to talk to the team.

September 29, 2008 Ed WeaverThe Wellsboro Varsity Record Books have once again be re-written. Senior Quarterback Cameron Jones is now tied for first place in touchdowns passes in a game with 3, and third in passing yards in a game with 216. Senior Receiver Garrett Stager also set records for his performance against Sayre. Stager recorded 148 yards on 4 catches with 2 touchdowns and sits first for yards in a game (148) and tied for first with 2 touchdowns in a game*.

Sayre J.V. Game Cancelled
September 28, 2008 Ed WeaverThe Sayre J.V. scheduled for Monday, September 29 at 4:30 has been cancelled. All members of the J.V. squad should report to the Middle School with helmets, cleats, and practice jerseys for an organizational practice, conditioning, and lifting.

September 27, 2008 Ed WeaverAfter week 5 of the 2008 regular season, Wellsboro, Athens, and Towanda sit atop the NTL Large School Division with 4-1 records. The Wildcats faced off against North Penn for the first league win by defeating the Panthers, 27-6.
