Senior Running Back Steve Mengee tops Wellsboro's athletes on the WETM-18 Sports Watch List for the Fall of 2008. Mengee sits in fourth place behind Athens' Shane Raupers, Katie Wyant, and Andre McCloud.

Junior Linebacker Aaron Moss has been nominated for the WETM-18 Sports Athlete of the Week for his week two performance in the win over Troy. Moss recorded 13 total tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 recovered fumble, and 1 interception return to five yards.

The J.V. Hornets suffered their first setback on the season, as they lost to Troy, 20-14. Turnovers plagued the Hornets, who trailed 7-0 at halftime, but bounced back on a long offensive drive in the third quarter to go on top of Troy 8-7.

For the second consecutive week, the Wellsboro Green Hornets slayed an NTL opponent. This week, Troy was the victim. After allowing Troy to score on their opening drive, the Hornets took control of the game as WETM-18 Sports Athlete Of The Week Steve Mengee hooked up with Cameron Jones for an 86 yard touchdown reception.

The 2008 J.V. Hornets kicked off their season with a 35-0 win over Cowanesque. This win marks the first time in over a year that the Wellsboro J.V. team has won a game. The scoring started early for Wellsboro. On the second play of their opening drive, Sophomore Quarterback Nick Saniga connected with Sophomore Receiver Ethan Callahan for their first of two scores in the quarter.

With his 60 yard punt return for a touchdown in Friday night's game with Cowanesque, Senior Steve Mengee is now a Wellsboro Football Record Holder*. Mengee now sits a top the Wellsboro record books for Punt Return Touchdowns in a game and is second for Punt Return Touchdowns in a season with the likes of former players Ed Baxter, Matt Priset, and present head coach Chris Morral.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets started the 2008 season on the road with a bang as they crushed Cowanesque Valley, 41-8. Wellsboro was paced by Steve Mengee, who had three touchdowns on the night, and Jake Coolidge. Senior Quarterback Cameron Jones was solid in his season debut, passing for over 100 yards.
