September 9, 2008 Ed WeaverThe J.V. Hornets suffered their first setback on the season, as they lost to Troy, 20-14. Turnovers plagued the Hornets, who trailed 7-0 at halftime, but bounced back on a long offensive drive in the third quarter to go on top of Troy 8-7.

After allowing Troy to score on their opening drive, the Hornets took control of the game as WETM-18 Sports Athlete Of The Week Steve Mengee hooked up with Cameron Jones for an 86 yard touchdown reception.

JV Hornets Pick Up First Win of Season
September 3, 2008 Ed WeaverThe 2008 J.V. Hornets kicked off their season with a 35-0 win over Cowanesque. This win marks the first time in over a year that the Wellsboro J.V. team has won a game. The scoring started early for Wellsboro. On the second play of their opening drive, Sophomore Quarterback Nick Saniga connected with Sophomore Receiver Ethan Callahan for their first of two scores in the quarter.

Mengee now sits a top the Wellsboro record books for Punt Return Touchdowns in a game and is second for Punt Return Touchdowns in a season with the likes of former players Ed Baxter, Matt Priset, and present head coach Chris Morral.
Hornets Crush Indians
August 30, 2008 Ed WeaverThe Wellsboro Green Hornets started the 2008 season on the road with a bang as they crushed Cowanesque Valley, 41-8. Wellsboro was paced by Steve Mengee, who had three touchdowns on the night, and Jake Coolidge. Senior Quarterback Cameron Jones was solid in his season debut, passing for over 100 yards.
