Wellsboro blanks Lakemont.
The Wellsboro High School won its fifth game in six 1959 starts and its tenth game in two seasons by walloping Lakemont Academy, 31-0, in the mud.
Coach Bill Johnson's Green Hornets stayed solely on the ground, piling up 19 first downs, 304 yards rushing, and getting touchdowns from five different players.
Pete Losinger's 62-yard run was the game's longest. The other touchdowns by Tim Kerns, Jack Worden, Fred Reynolds, and Don Gottchall were all short runs.
Wellsboro meets Wyalusing of the Roosevelt Trail League Saturday, hoping to extend its two season record to 11-1-1. The only loss over the span was a 28-27 verdict to Renovo this season.
During the game, Lakemont halfback Ted Wyman of Youngstown, Ohio was taken from the game, suffering what was believed to be stomach cramps. He was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital and was later operated on for a ruptured appendix.
