Football team beats Troy, 18-0.
The Wellsboro Green Hornets' football team continued their winning ways with a 18-0 victory over Troy Friday night at Troy.
Bill Johnson's Wellsboro eleven, apparently working out any kinks before Saturday's game with Jim Haggerty's Notre Dame Crusaders, rolled to 14 first downs and picked up 337 yards overall, holding the Trojans to 67 yards.
Husky fullback John Deibert plowed across for two Wellsboro scores with quarterback Keith Tombs adding the other. The Hornets picked up most of their yardage in the second quarter scoring all three touchdowns.
Tombs threw a pass to Deibert early in the period for the first score, the fullback easily pulling his way across the goal line from a short distance out.
Tombs, a hastily converted end, plowed over from the two a few minutes later. Still later, Deibert capped a third Hornet drive, bulling over from the five for the final touchdown. All three extra points attempts failed.
It was Wellsboro's third victory in four games this season, a 28-27 loss to Renovo marring the record.
Saturday at 2:00, the local team meets the Notre Dame team from Elmira in Wellsboro.
