Wellsboro dumps Renovo 19-0.
Wellsboro gained sweet revenge for last years loss to Renovo by dumping the Railroaders 19-0 on the local field Saturday for win number two of the young gridiron campaign.
The Hornets were just about perfect in winning their 15th game against 1 loss and 1 tie in this the third year of football for the local school.
Wellsboro scored with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter on a 55 yard march in 4 plays. Renovo punted to the Wellsboro 45-yard line. Tim Kerns gained a yard up the middle and Gordy Seamans then picked up a first down on a 16 yard gallop around left end to the Renovo 38-yard line Seamans then picked up seven more yards on a double reverse to the 31-yard line.
Then Kerns went up the middle, breaking loose from several would-be-tacklers going the remaining 31 yards to pay dirt. Wellsboro converted their first extra point of the year as Bob Morrow's placement kick split the uprights.
The Hornets scored again in the second quarter with only 3 minutes elapsed when a Renovo drive stalled on the Wellsboro 41-yard line. Frank Williams gained six yards up the middle and Seamans got the first down on the Renovo 46-yard line Kerns carried to the 39-yard line and on a rollout keeper play Mike Burns got the first down on the Renovo 35-yard line.
Kerns and Seamans took the ball to the 15-yard line. Burns got five more to the 10-yard line and then Burns threw a strike to Seamans in the end zone for the touchdown. The extra point kick was wide and Wellsboro led 13-0.
Wellsboro ended the scoring when the Hornets stopped a Renovo drive on the Wellsboro 17-yard line. From there the green and white marched the 83 yards in 11 plays highlighted by runs by Williams and Kerns and a 22 yard run by Mike Burns to the Renovo 27-yard line. Jerry Anderson got nine yards to the 18-yard line and Kerns picked up seven more to the 11-yard line.
Kerns then scored from the 11-yard line on a double reverse going into the end zone untouched after a great block by Burns on the 5-yard line cleared the way. Morrow's kick for the point after was blocked and it ended 19-0.
