Wellsboro downs Canton.
The Wellsboro-Charleston Green Hornets came from behind to edge a game against the Canton eleven 7-6 on the Senior high field Saturday afternoon.
The win brought the season record to six wins, 1 loss and 1 tie for the season and was the final game of the year for the Hornets.
Canton drew first blood just before the first half ended to take a 6-0-lead. Aldie Fitzwater ran for the score from 13 yards out for the Canton team. A running play for the extra point failed.
Wellsboro tied the score in the final quarter on a sustained drive with quarterback Mike Burns throwing two key passes to end Freeman Smith to keep the drive going. Gordy Seamans pounded over from the five-yard line to knot the score at 6-6. Bob Morrow calmly booted the ball through the uprights for the extra point and it ended Wellsboro 7, Canton 6.
