Coach Norm Antoine's Green Hornets won its sixth straight game, the third in the Northern Tier League, by waltzing by Towanda 38-19 in a game that saw the Hornets explode for three quick, first quarter touchdowns, holding the Black Knights of Towanda to only 31 yards rushing in the first half, and the Hornet first squad was put on ice and the reserves ground out the clock for nearly three quarters.

Once again the Hornet defense was outstanding. It boxed up the Towanda offense and they just couldn't get a drive started. The defense spent most of the day in the Black Knights backfield, threw them for big losses, and held their passing attack to just 12 yards.

The Hornets started the rout quickly and had two touchdowns before the game was six minutes old. Bill Leonard lugged the mail for the first score, ramming of tackle cutting to his right and out ran all defenders for 49 yards. The kick placement was wide.

Quarterback Dale Tombs out-distanced the field on the next one, blasted over guard and romped 26 yards. A Tombs to Denny Bliss pass for 20 yards set up this score. Again the kick was wide.

After Towanda couldn't move the ball in four trys, Tombs tossed the pigskin to Denny Rumsey and he scampered 43 yards for the score. The kick placement was low, as the Hornets led 19-0 after the first period.

The Hornets scored again early in the second quarter when they look Towanda's punt ort their 31-yard line. After two plays that netted the Hornets 14 yards and a first down, Tombs hit Bliss with an aerial for 28 yards and the Hornets were on the Black Knights 27-yard line. On a pitch-out by Tombs to Scranton that gained 17 yards, Scranton went up the middle for seven more to the Towanda six-yard line. The pitch-out worked again to Scranton and he went in for the score. Morral booted the extra point.

Towanda scored late in the period, when on a quick reverse, Gary Thomas ran 33 yards. Gary also plunged over for the extra point. The Hornets led at intermission 25-7.

The Hornets struck again midway in the third period and runs by Leonard, a big dash by Scranton for 24 yards, another by Leonard and a 13 yarder by Scranton to the three-yard line, with Tombs carrying it in. Tombs also ran for the extra point.

Towanda took the kickoff and worked the bal to their 30-yard line where Thomas once again pulled that quick reverse and out ran the field for 70 yards for the score. The extra point was no good.

On the return kickoff the Hornets worked the ball from the 25-yard line to the Towanda 49-yard line. Runs by Bailey, Comstock and a pass from Prevost to Youdas brought the pigskin to the 49-yard line. Jim Clark broke off tackle and tore down the sideline for the touchdown, the extra point run was no good.

The Black Knights ended the days scoring late in the last quarter. With the Hornets scrubs holding their own against the Towanda regulars, a Towanda punt was fumbled on the Hornets 5 yard-line and Towanda recovered on the three-yard line. After two cracks at the Hornet line, Ron Allis plunged over from the one-yard line. The pass for the extra point was incomplete.

The Hornets will meet Bath this Saturday on the local High School field with kickoff set at 2:00 p.m. The Hornets will be out to make it seven straight and they'll need all the support of the fans, better plan to spend the afternoon at the football field and give the local team a boost.
