Another Win for Wellsboro Hornets.
The Wellsboro Hornets added another win to their record Friday night when thevytromped Bucktail 46-6. The victorious Hornets were led by Linford Jones with three touchdowns.
In the first quarter Linford scrambled two yards to paydirt to give Wellsboro a 6-0 lead. Blaine Antome threw a 45 yard
touchdown pass to Senior Rick Hall during the next twelve minutes of play and nothing was going to stop the Hornets then Brian Luke intercepted a would be Bucktail pass and galloped 73 yards for six more points while Tom Young kicked the extra point. But before the half was over Linford, with the help of some excellent blocking, gave Wellsboro a 26-0 lead.
The second half was much the same except for a Buck touchdown that came when they blocked Jeff Coolidge's punt and Wilham Getz ran 35 yards to the end zone. That was the first and only score of the game for Bucktail and then the Hornets took over again.
Bill Callahan intercepted a pass and Blain Antoine proceeded to march the Wellsboro squad to the one-yard line where Antoine swept left end to paydirt. In the fourth quarter Jones once again scored by scrambling a yard and then added the extra point. With one second left Tom Young decided 40 points wasn't enough, so he ran 17 yards to make the final score Wellsboro 46, Bucktail 6.
The Hornets completed 6 for 11 passes and the defense has again been successful in stopping any scores against them. The next game for the Hornets is Saturday at 8:00 p.m. against Canton at the Troy Fairgrounds.
