Wellsboro Hornets Overcome by Canton.
Last Saturday night the Wellsboro Hornets traveled to Troy for a game against the Canton Warriors. Their bid for their third win in five starts was thwarted by Canton's Steve Riggs and his numerous pass completions. He continuously completed passes against the Hornet secondary.
The game which was supposed to be a battle between the defenses, was won and lost by the offenses. Wellsboro's Blaine Antoine, running 12 yards for an early touchdown, gave the Hornets a lead and an extra spark - neither of which lasted long. Canton had 174 yards passing and 60 yards rushing compared to Wellsboro's 96 yards passing and 69 yards rushing.
The Wellsboro defense seemed to suffer a major let down after giving up their first touchdown of the season to Canton, which was followed by four more. The final score was Canton 36, Wellsboro 14.
Next week, however, the Hornets will try to regroup themselves for their homecoming game against Wyalusing. The game will be played Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a parade through downtown Wellsboro. Coronation of the Homecoming Queen is planned for halftime.
