Hornets Romp Over North Penn In 42-0 Victory.
Saturday afternoon the Wellsboro Hornets crushed North Penn by a score of 42-0. The game played at Mansfield was a total loss for the Panthers.
Wellsboro opened up with a quick touchdown early in the first quarter, minutes laterhad another one and led by 30 points at halftime.
The Hornets offense was commanded by Steve Copp because their regular quarterback, Blaine Antoine suffered an injury in the Bolivar game. The Panthers bothered by turnovers couldn't seem to pull themselves together. They started a few drives, but Wellsboro's exceptional defense had no problem controlling them. Steve Copp led the Hornets with four touchdowns. Linford Jones had two and Jim Carson scored once on a 36 yard Copp pass. They totaled 183 yards rushing and completed one out of six passes for 36 yards.
Defensively Wellsboro was definitely superior over North Penn. Harry Jones and Brian Luke led in tackles. Jones, Luke, and Rick Hall all had interceptions and Kevin Spink blocked two punts while Bill Callahan blocked one. The Wellsboro defense was outstanding in holding the Panthers to a total of 25 yards.
The Hornets now hold a 4-4-1 record and have won the trophy for defeating North Penn three years in a row. Their last game is Friday night against Towanda at Wellsboro.
