Friday night, the Wellsboro Green Hornets clashed with Towanda but were defeated in a thrilling game by a score of 21-18.

Wellsboro finished the 1975 season with a record of 3 wins, 6 losses, while the Black Knights remained undefeated in league play. Towanda revenged last year's loss to the Hornets which had locked both teams in a tie for the Northern Tier League title.

Although the Knights dominated the first half, Wellsboro drew blood first when safety Jeff Coolidge picked off a Towanda pass to set up a touchdown. A 20 yard pass from Coolidge to Jenkins gave the Hornets a 6-0 lead which the held through out the opening period.

During the second quarter, Towanda had some exceptional plays and scored all their touchdowns. An unknown Black Knight grabbed an incomplete lateral and sprinted several yards to even up the score with two other touchdowns. Towanda appeared to clinch the game. Halftime score was Wellsboro 6, Towanda 21.

The Black Knights though began to have some doubts when Hornet tailback Matt Coolidge scrambled 50 yards to paydirt. Wellsboro had several threatening tallies but were plagued by penalties and turnovers.

With little more than a minute left on the clock, Jay Buker brought Wellsboro to within three points of Towanda on an 18 yard run. But the Hornets last minute efforts were all in vain as the gun went off and the scoreboard read Wellsboro 18, Towanda 21.
