Hornets go down in defeat at Wellsville.

Saturday, the Wellsboro Hornet football team traveled to Wellsville only to suffer a 22-10 defeat. The Hornets now have a 3-4 record with two games left in the 1975 football season.

Wellsboro looked extremely poor in the first half. They received the opening kickoff but were soon forced to punt. Four plays later, the Lions scored a 50 yard touchdown on a gallop around tight end. The kick was good to give Wellsville a quick 7-0 lead.

After another Wellsboro punt the Lions were once again in possession of the ball. They completed a 47 yard pass and then a one yard plunge gave them another touchdown. Midway through the second quarter Wellsville lengthened their lead to 22-0 following a 70 yard pass and 2 yard touchdown run.

The only Wellsboro threat ended with an interception in the end zone. The halftime score was Wellsville 22-0 over Wellsboro.

The Hornets were a new team in the second half. They held the Lions to little yardage and then blocked a Wellsville punt in the end zone for a safety.

Wellsville kicked off to the Hornets, who drove downfield and scored with Jeff Coolidge going in from the three-yard line. Barry Jordan score the two-point conversion.

A tough Wellsboro defense almost completely stopped any attempt to move the ball by the Lions offense for the remainder of the game.

Other chances for the Hornets to score were halted by penalties and turnovers. The final score was Wellsville on top of Wellsboro, 22-10.

This Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Hornets travel to Island Park, Blossburg, to take on the North Penn Panthers. Both teams hold a 3-4 record. Come out and support the Wellsboro Green Hornets.
