Saturday, October 11, the Wellsboro Green Hornets' record was lowered to 2-3 overall after a loss to Wyalusing 32-26.

The Hornets went down fighting after a great comeback in the second half as a Ram pass to Mark Wells in the final minutes gave Wyalusing a six point victory.

The first period started with Wyalusing kicking to Wellsboro. Junior quarterback Jeff Coolidge sprinted seven yards to give Wellsboro a 6-0 edge with little more than six minutes gone. Three plays later, Wyalusing's Salsman ran 62 yards to paydirt after breaking tackles. Arer added the kick.

Wellsboro was called with a clipping penalty on the kickoff, and couldn't do anything with the ball. The Rams took advantage of a short Hornet punt as Salsman scrambled 29 yards to add another Wyalusing touchdown.

Karl Stanton recovered a Wellsboro fumble to put the Rams in good scoring position on the Hornet 29-yard line. Wyalusing then marched down to the three-yard line where Salsman blasted through the middle to score once again. The kick failed, but at the end of the first quarter the Rams were ahead 20-6.

THe Hornets still looked sluggish at the beginning of the second period of play. Within minutes they were forced to punt and Wyalusing found themselves in possession of the ball. The Rams, though, were plagued by penalties and a series of exchanges took place.

With slightly more than two minutes left, Wyalusing's quarterback hit Roger Miller for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Wellsboro then took the kickoff return and drove downfield. The drive ended with Matt Coolidge scooting two yards. The score at halftime was Wyalusing on top of Wellsboro, 26-12.

The second half was all Wellsboro's. Wyalusing received the kickoff and after a series of plays was forced to punt. Hornet Rhett Gorda blocked the punt and Wellsboro was in possession of the ball on the Rams' 41-yard line.

When the Hornets had advanced to the 14-yard line, Jeff Cooldige faked a handoff and ran around left end to be brought down at the four-yard line. Two plays later, Jay Buker pulled Wellsboro to within eight points.

Wellsboro then kicked to Wyalusing who soon discovered that the Hornet defense was impenetrable, and returned the ball to Wellsboro. The Hornets retained possession and proceded to the Ram 10-yard line at which point the third quarter ended.

Early in the fourth period, Senior fullback Barry Jordan plunged through the middle for a touchdown and a two-point conversion pass to Jerry Carson tied the game at 26-26. Once again a tough Wellsboro defense forced Wyalusing to punt. But after completing a series of plays which put the Hornets on the Wyalusing 49-yard line, Wellsboro had to give the ball back to the Rams.

A penalty against Wyalusing didn't dampen their spirits, since two plays later, with 2:34 showing on the clock, Hughs completed a one yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed. The game ended with a score of Wyalusing on top of Wellsboro, 32-26.

The Hornet's next game is Saturday, away at Cowanesque.
