Hornets finish season with 7-2 overall record.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets closed out a successful season with victory number seven, Friday night, against the visiting North Penn Panthers 40-0.
The Hornets finished the season with a 7-2 record, overall and a 4-2 record in the league for a second place finish.
This also brings head coach Ted Yeager's record to 22-14-1 over his four year tenure as head coach.
The Hornets wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. After receiving the opening kickoff the Jeff Coolidge directed offense moved goalward.
The big play of the drive was a 25 yard run by fullback Steve Radocaj. The first touchdown of the evening went to senior tailback Jay Buker who scored from seven yards out after taking the option pitch from Coolidge. The kick was wide and the Hornets led 6-0.
Not wishing to be outdone the defense show that they had come to play defense also.
After yeilding no yardage on three plays the Hornets forced the Panthers into a punting situation. Senior defensive end Rhett Gorda crushed over from the right side of the visitors formation and blocked the punt, he then chased it down to the one-yard line where he recovered the loose ball. Gorda, who also doubles as a tailback on offense, found a gaping hole in the Panther line and stepped into the end zone on the very next play for Wellsboro's second touchdown. The kick was good and Wellsboro led 13-0.
The Hornets missed another opportunity to score in the first quarter when Gorda again blocked a Panther punt and recovered the ball on the two-yard line. But on the first play the Hornets fumbled the ball back to the Panthers.
Wellsboro continued their domination into the second half and added three more touchdowns before the intermission.
Touchdown number three for the evening was added by senior quarterback Jeff Coolidge who ran 13 yards to paydirt. Touchdown number four went to junior tailback Dave Gibson who turned in the longest run of the evening when he took the handoff through the right side of the Hornet line, cut against the flow to his left and raced 51 yards into the end zone.
The final touchdown of the first half, belonged to senior tailback Mike Barnish, who scored the first touchdown of his career on a seven yard burst through the middle of the line. When the snow flurries cleared the Hornets had 34-0 at half time.
The second half saw Wellsboro substitute freely and in so doing were able to get on the scoreboard once. And it was the defense that did that. Junior linebacker Steve Radocaj intercepted his fourth pass of the year and returned it for 31 yards and a touchdown. The kick was wide and the score was Wellsboro 40-0.
Twelve Hornets played their last game for the Green and White Friday. They are Mike Barnish, Mark Bell, Rhett Gorda, Jay Buker, Tim Smith, Steve Gobble, Scott Wilson, Paul Murphy, Kevin Patterson, Don Herres, and Dennis Jones, and Jeff Coolidge who each earned four varsity letters in football for Wellsboro.
