Hornets chalk up another win in game against Troy.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets continued their winning ways with an impressive 27-0 win over Troy.

Again it was solid defense and a devastating running attack that gave the Hornets the edge, on a rain-soaked Trojan field.

The Hornets wasted little time in setting the tempo of the game. They received the opening kickoff, but two plays later turned the ball over to Troy on a fumble. The defense dug in and forced Troy to punt on fourth down. As it turned out, those would be the only four plays Troy would have the ball during the first quarter.

After returning the punt to their own 30-yard line Wellsboro put the offense in high gear. On first down Steve Radocaj burst over left tackle for 20 yards and the first down.

Next play Dave Gibson circled right end for 10 yards and a first down. Then Radocaj crashed off right tackle for 10 more yards and another first down. The first Hornet scoring drive was capped by Gibson, who sliced into the end zone off left tackle from the eight-yard line. Ty Antoine added the extra point and Wellsboro led 7-0.

On the ensuing kickoff the Hornets pulled their first surprise of the night by kicking and recovering an onside kick. Taking full advantage of momentum the Hornets again drove goalward. This time the bulk of the running was done by fullback Radocaj who bulled in from the three-yard line for the Hornets' second touchdown. The kick failed, and with seconds left in the first quarter Wellsboro led 13-0. The onside kick having worked so well the first time, the Hornets again went to the well with the same results.

The Hornet good fortune was only short-lived as they fumbled on the very next play.

The first half of the second quarter saw the teams play even. Toward the end of the quarter the Hornets were again headed toward paydirt.

Starting a drive on their own 33-yard line with just minutes remaining the Hornets moved closer to the end zone and set up a Tim Cisco to Brian Parsells touchdown pass which covered 30 yards. Antoine again added the point and at halftime the Hornets enjoyed a comfortable 20-0 lead.

The third quarter saw about the same action as the second. The Wellsboro defense did an outstanding job shutting off the Trojan attack and the offense controlled the ball.

The Hornets put their final points on the scoreboard in the third period After a long pass from Cisco to senior split end Jerry Carson that ended on the Trojan two-yard line. Dave Gibson bolted over for his second touchdown of the evening. Antoine again was accurate with the kick and the score went to 27-0. Wellsboro.

For the remainder of the game Wellsboro began to empty the bench and give its reserves a chance to play.
