Canton rolls over Wellsboro, 24-0.

Canton's tenacious defense, combined with an unfortunate Wellsboro turnover late in the first half, keyed the Warriors to a 24-0 whitewashing of the Hornets at Wellsboro High School Saturday night.
The loss drops Wellsboro's overall record to 0-4 and 0-2 in league play.
The Hornet defense held Canton scoreless until late in the first half.
The Warriors drove deep into Wellsboro territory but failed to take it in from one yard out on a fourth down play.
Wellsboro took over on downs and proceeded to lose a fumble inside their own five-yard line. Marshall Hall then ran the ball in from one yard out and also caught the two-point conversion pass from quarterback Miller Moyer to put the Warriors up 8-0 at the half.
Canton extended its lead to 16-0 in the third stanza when Moyer hit Steve Mosser on a 22 yard scoring strike, and Mosser also gathered in the conversion pass from Moyer. The scoring ended in the final quarter when halfback Bob Ward ran five yards for a touchdown. Mosser again caught the conversion pass, this time from backup quarterback Russ Vermilya.
Canton's defensive unit held Wellsboro to a total of only one yard rushing while their own backfleld ground out 121 yards on the ground.
The Hornets did manage 111 passing yards as quarterback Doug Keck hit on 5-of-10 attempts.
Wellsboro's next game is this Friday night, September 29 against Wyalusing at Wyalusing High School.
