Schiefen leads Notre Dame over Wellsboro team 28-12.

Notre Dame quarterback Carl Schiefen scored twice and finished with 123 rushing yards to pace Notre Dame (Elmira) to a 28-12 victory over Wellsboro Friday night in Elmira.

The first quarter was a scoreless one with both teams moving the ball, but unable to put points on the board.

In the second stanza, the Crusaders marched 80 yards with the help of a pass interference call against the Hornets. The final four yards came on a John Trifoso run. The kick was missed and Notre Dame led 6-0.

On their next possession. Notre Dame drove to a score in only four plays. The touchdown came when Crusader back Bob Beckwith broke loose and scored on a 35 yard jaunt. Notre Dame added the two-point conversion and led 14-0 at the half.

Following the Hornet second half kickoff, Notre Dame mounted their best drive of the night, a 67 yard, 14 play, time consuming series. Schiefen went the final three yards, with kicker Vecellio adding the extra point.

Wellsboro's drive for their initial score took about 12 seconds as John Driebelbies fielded the Crusader kickoff at his own 30-yard line and went 70 yards for six points. The two-point conversion attempt failed and Notre Dame led 21-6 after three periods.

Notre Dame recovered a Hornet fumble early in the final quarter on Wellsboro's 32-yard line. After a 15 yard penalty against the Crusaders.

Schiefen scored on a 41 yard run on a quarterback keeper. Vecellio added the kick and Notre Dame led comfortably 28-6.

With just over a minute left in the game, Driebelbies scored again on a one yard run. The kick failed and the gun sounded with no further scoring. Driebelbies topped the Hornet rushers with 90 yards on 20 carries.
