The Towanda Black Knights jumped off to a four touchdown lead by halftime, added a pair of scores in the second half and had little trouble downing the Wellsboro Hornets 39-0 at Towanda Friday night.

The loss drops Wellsboro to 0-4 in NTL competition and 1-7 overall.

Towanda spread their scoring among six players who each tallied one touchdown. The first Black Knight player to cross the goal line was quarterback Tom Gordon who ran over from two yards out. On their next possession, Tim Schultz capped a 65 yard drive by going the final eight yards for the score. Towanda led 14-0 after one period.

A 58 yard pass play from Gordon to Tim Geiger early in the second stanza made it 20-0. An eight yard pass from Gordon to Jimmy Dickens put the Black Knights up comfortably by the half.

In the second half Towanda padded its lead when Todd McPherson scored on a five yard run.

Following McPherson's jaunt, the Hornets mounted their most serious scoring threat. They drove from their own 27-yard line to a fourth and goal from the Towanda four, but the play was stopped and so was the threat.

Harry Kacyon scampered home from 25 yards out to end the Towanda scoring brigade.

Ty Antoine was one of the few Hornet bright spots on the night as he accounted for 118 yards total offense.

Wellsboro's next game is Friday night against North Penn at Wellsboro.
