DeBach leads Troy over Hornets, 12-0.
| presented by: |
The hard running of sophomore Rob DeBach and a stingy Trojan defense combined to lead Troy to a 12-0 grid verdict over Wellsboro Friday night at Troy High School.
DeBach rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries and the defense limited the Hornets to a total of 32 yards for the entire game.
The Trojans wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Wellsboro took the opening kickoff and four plays later was forced to punt. Troy took over at the Hornet 44-yard line, and seven plays later they scored. The final 18 yards came on a DeBach run. DeBach and Darrell Heller accounted for all 44 yards in the drive.
Wellsboro's only serious threat of the evening came in the third stanza as they recovered a fumble on Troy's 25-yard line. Trojan cornerback Don Moss, however, intercepted a Doug Keck pass on the 11-yard line to end the scoring opportunity.
Troy added an insurance touchdown with just over six minutes left in the game as quarterback Brian Fleming hit his tight end Dave Pepper on a 17 yard scoring strike. The 56 yard drive was highlighted by DeBach, who ran nine times for 39 yards before the touchdown aerial.
