Rob Debach rushed for 120 yards to lead Troy to a 27-14 football win over Wellsboro Saturday at Wellsboro.

The Hornets kept the game close until the half, but in the final two periods Troy pulled away. Wellsboro falls to 0-2 in league play while Troy goes to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Northern Tier League action.

The Trojans scored first, following a fumble deep in Hornet territory. Debach ran the final 10 yards to paydirt to put Troy up, 7-0, early in the first quarter.

Some key pass plays from Hornet quarterback Todd Coolidge to Carl Buss and Ken Leisey put Wellsboro within striking distance later in the opening stanza. Coolidge ran the final four yards and his two-point conversion run put the Hornets ahead, 8-7.

Troy mustered the first long scoring drive of the game in the second period. The biggest play of the drive was an option pass from Debach to Dave Fosnocht for 28 yards which put the ball on Wellsboro's three-yard line. Debach went the final two yards and Troy led 14-8 at the intermission.

The second half was all Troy. Scott Norton burst 50 yards for a touchdown in the third period to spot the Trojans a 20-8 lead. Norton also had a fine afternoon, rushing for 86 yards.

In the fourth quarter Troy added one more insurance tally as Faust ran three yards for a score following some fine running by both Debach and Norton. Leff added his third extra point in four attempts to put Troy up, 27-8.

Wellsboro tallied the final touchdown late in the game on a long scoring drive capped by Jack Maynard's seven yard run.

Quarterback Coolidge had a solid performance, hitting on 6-of-12 passes for 104 yards. The Hornet ground game, however only added 68 yards for the day.

The Hornets travel to Canton this Saturday to do battle with the Warriors. Canton is 2-1 overall and 0-0 in NTL play.
