The Towanda Black Knights utilized an effective ball control offense to down the Wellsboro Hornets 34-6 Friday night in the grid opener for both squads. The contest was played at Towanda.
Buck to Townsend downs Hornets, 12-7.
A 49 yard touchdown pass from Sayre quarterback Bill Buck to Tom Townsend with just over two minutes remaining in the game gave the Redskins a 12-7 football win over host Wellsboro Friday night.
Waverly tops Hornets, 26-9.
Incomplete passes. Turnovers. Penalties. They all kill drives. And on Friday night they all led to Wellsboro's downfall as Waverly beat the visiting Green Hornets, 26-9. The loss drops Wellsboro's season record to 0-3.
Two-point conversion dooms Hornets, 14-13.
The Wellsboro Hornet football team has yet to win a game this season, and Wyalusing, their opponents last Friday night, have yet to lose. However, both streaks would have been ended had it not been for a successful two-point conversion late in the first half.
Wellsboro gridders win first, 29-7.
The Wellsboro High School football team amassed 346 yards in total offense Friday night to top visiting Cowanesque Valley, 29-7. It was the first win of the season for the 1-4 Hornets.

The win was icing on the cake to a very successful Homecoming weekend at Wellsboro. The Hornets combined two third quarter touchdowns with a stingy defense to defeat Canton 14-13 in a Twin Tier League football game Friday night at Wellsboro.
Two 4th quarter touchdowns pace Wellsboro, 21-12.
The breaks always even out. The old axiom seems to be coming true for the Wellsboro Green Hornet football team. On Friday night, they scored 14 fourth quarter points, with the aid of two costly Troy turnovers to down the Trojans, 21-20.

Three second half touchdowns by Jack Maynard opened up a tight game and carried hosts Wellsboro to a 27-8 football win over North Penn Friday night.
Whitmer to Langan dooms Wellsboro, 40-6.
Notre Dame quarterback Ted Whitmer threw four touchdown passes, three to tailback Mike Langan to put an abrupt halt to Wellsboro's four-game winning streak Friday night, October 29.
Athens ground game trips Hornets, 19-7.
The Athens Bulldogs ground out 377 yards rushing to defeat Wellsboro in the football finale for both squads Saturday afternoon in Athens. Jay Sehultz scored twice and John Madigan once in Athens 19-7 triumph.
