Following a 54-0 loss to the undefeated Trojans Friday night, September 23, at Wellsboro, Hornet coach Jeff Strohl remarked, "Troy has an excellent team. I was surprised by their depth and their ability to run and throw the football. We tried a lot of different coverages, but couldn't cover their receivers in a zone or man to man. Troy is definitely the best all-around team we have played this season."

Troy now stands at 3-0 in league play, and Wellsboro at 0-3.

Strohl stated that during the game, T.J. Layton for the Wellsboro Hornets, was the leading rusher with 16 carries for 26 yards. Dave Quackenbush, with two receptions for 22 yards, was designated leading receiver. Tomm Wallace, who completed two passes out of 10 for 26 yards, was the Hornets' leading passer, and leading tackler honors went to Jeff Moss and Gary Cooper who both made seven tackles.

Strohl said, "Tackle Jeff Moss played an excellent game offensively, as well as defensively. He had a sack and leads the team in tackles. Tackle Dan Reese also played well defensively and did an excellent job offensively on the line."

"Nick Wallace, our fullback, played outstanding with six rushes for 20 yards, and also made some excellent lead blocks for Layton."

The Hornet JV football team suffered its first defeat of the season in league play against Troy Monday, September 26, at Troy. The junior Hornets now have a 2-1 league record.

This Saturday, October 1, Wellsboro will be at Cowanesque Valley for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
