The Wellsboro Hornets scored 21 unanswered second half points Friday night to down visiting North Penn 27-7 in a non-league football game.

The win improved Wellsboro's record to 4-4 overall, 1-4 in Northern Tier League action. The Panthers fell to 2-6.

Tim Driebelbies was the Hornets main offensive threat. The junior tailback rushed for 144 yards on 19 carries and scored two second half touchdowns. Wellsboro's ground game was impressive as they amassed 240 yards on the sloppy field.

Wellsboro scored first on a one yard run by fullback George Dempsey in the opening stanza. The point after attempt failed and the Hoinets led 6-0.

Panther quarterback Steve Brion capped a long drive by scoring from two yards out in the second quarter. Kicker Phil Waksmunski's extra point put North Penn ahead 7-6.

In the third period Wellsboro went ahead to stay on Driebelbies one yard run. The two-point conversion failed, but Wellsboro took a five point, 12-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The final period was all Wellsboro. On their first possession in the quarter, the Hornets marched deep into North Penn territory. On fourth-and-three, Marty Henneman was on to kick a field goal. The kick was blocked but holder Perry Prough picked up the ball and ran in for a touchdown. Driebelbies added two more points on a successful conversion run.

Driebelbies closed out the scoring with a 22 yard touchdown run late in the game.
