The Towanda Black Knight football team continued to dominate all opponents this year as they improved to 5-0 Friday night, downing visiting Wellsboro 34-0. Towanda has shut out four of five teams thus far, allowing only six points in their game with Sayre.

The loss drops Wellsboro to 3-2, 2-2 in Twin Tiers League action.

Towanda established a solid ground game from the outset, finishing the night with 350 rushing yards on 45 carries. Gordie Bull topped the Black Knight ground gainers with 123 yards on only eight carries, one of them a 31 yard touchdown run.

The Black Knights struck quickly, scoring the first two times they got the ball. Quarterback Brian Perry capped a nine-play, 64-yard drive, scoring on a one yard run. Chris Jennings' extra point boot put Towanda on top for good, 7-0.

Jennings scored himself on a seven yard run on Towanda's next possession, then kicked the extra point to increase the bulge to 14-0 after one quarter.

The barrage continued in the second stanza as Towanda added two more scores. Bull scored from 31 yards out, then Jennings returned a Hornet interception 44 yards for the Black Knights' fourth touchdown just before halftime. Jennings also kicked both extra points.

The final score of the evening came on a one yard Kevin Parrish touchdown run in the third period. Cy Yost was Wellsboro's leading rusher, gaining 33 yards on nine carries. Kevin Cavanaugh topped Hornet receivers, hauling in three passes for 28 yards.

The Hornets tackle Canton this Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Wellsboro in their 1986 homecoming contest.
