The Wellsboro Hornet football team used a tough defense and a pair of Philip Prough touchdown catches to down Wyalusing 12-0 Friday night at Wellsboro. The win improves Wellsboro's record to 2-0, 1-0 in league play. Wyalusing drops to 0-2.
Wellsboro got on the board in the second and third quarters on Damon Scott to Prough scoring aerials. The first one covered 17 yards, and the second went for 11.
Prough also caught a 54 yard pass to finish the evening with 82 yards on three receptions. He also averaged 33 yards per punt on four kicks.
The defense was led by senior cocaptain Scott Butler, who had 15 tackles and four quarterback sacks.
"Our defense played a super ball game, the best they have played in a long time," said co-head coach Dave Lintal.
The Hornets recorded an impressive eight quarterback sacks, four by Butler and three by Alba Monks.
Damon Scott had a solid game at quarterback, completing five-of-11 passes, two for scores.
On Saturday, Wellsboro travels to Montrose for a 1:30 p.m. league game.
