Cowanesque Valley downs Wellsboro, 19-6.

Dave Kemp rushed for 168 yards and Jamie Stermer added a pair of touchdowns to lead Cowanesque Valley to a 19-6 season-opening football win over Wellsboro Friday night at Westfield.
The win was CV's first over Wellsboro in 14 years.
The Indians opened the scoring in the first period when Stermer ran the ball in from ten yards out. The touchdown was set up by a Hornet fumble at their own nine-yard line. Kemp's extra point made it 7-0.
In the second stanza, Cowanesque Valley increased their bulge to 13-0 on a one yard touchdown plunge by quarterback Kip Adams. The shortscoring drive was set up by a blocked punt.
The Hornets cut the lead to 13-6 on a Matt Lundgren four yard scoring run Wellsboro's scoring drive went 66 yards on 13 plays.
The final score of the evening came on Stermer's three yard run following a second blocked punt which the Indians recovered at Wellsboro's five-yard line.
Jim Dempsey and Lundgren accounted for all the Hornets' positive rushing yardage. Dempsey tallied 64 yards on 17 totes. Lundgren added 55 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Quarterback Bill Doane completed a pair of passes for 65 yards, a 47 yarder to John Fairbanks and an 18 yarder to Glenn Davis.
Wellsboro entertains Montrose this Friday night at the high school field. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
