The Montrose Meteor defense threw a blanket over the Wellsboro offense Friday night en route to a 26-0 football win at Wellsboro. The shutout was the second consecutive this year for Montrose, last week's coming versus the Towanda Black Knights, 12-0.

Wellsboro's offense never got on track as the Meteor defense held the Hornets to 10 total offensive yards for the game. Montrose piled up an impressive 352 total yards. 319 of them coming on the ground.

Montrose exploded for 20 points in the second quarter on touchdown runs by Mike Newhart and Dave Smith and an 18 yard scoring pass from Smith to Paul Adams.

Bob Thorne closed out the Montrose scoring with a two yard touchdown in the third stanza. Thorne ran for 124 yards on the night.

The Meteor offense survived the entire game without a turnover. Wellsboro suffered two, one on an interception and one on a fumble.

The Hornets host Horseheads (NY) High School Friday night, September 18, in a non-league matchup. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
