The Troy Trojans jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to down Wellsboro 35-6 Friday night before a rain-soaked Wellsboro homecoming football crowd. The Hornets fall to 0-3 in Northern Tier League play, 0-5 overall.
Dave Williams, who finished the night with 161 rushing yards on 14 carries, scored three first half touchdowns on runs of seven, five, and 60 yards. Quarterback Brian Hawley also scored on a two yard run as the Trojans led by a comfortable 28-0 at intermission.
Roger Feathers increased the Troy bulge to 35-0 when he scored on a one yard blast in the third stanza.
A four yard scoring run by Wellsboro's Seth Yost in the final period got the Hornets on the scoreboard.
In addition to his three touchdowns, Williams also kicked three extra points and caught a two-point conversion pass from Hawley. The Trojan offense amassed a total of 265 rushing yards on 43 carries.
The Hornets were plagued by turnovers all evening, losing a pair of fumbles and suffering three interceptions.
Wellsboro travels to Wyalusing Friday night to face the Rams. Troy travels to Athens for a Saturday afternoon game.
