Wellsboro knocks off Athens, 13-6.

The Wellsboro Green Hornet football team improved to 2-0 on the young season by downing the Athens Bulldogs 13-6 Saturday afternoon at Athens.
Senior captain Steve Boyce, a Hornet offensive lineman, scored the lone touchdown of the first half when he picked up quarterback Jeff Zuchowski's fumble and ran 44 yards to pay dirt late in the second quarter.
Bill Doane's point after kick put Wellsboro on top 7-0 at intermission. The Bulldogs cut Wellsboro's lead to a point in the third period on a two yard Chris Parsons touchdown run.
The Hornets put the game away in the fourth stanza with a 15 play, 73 yard scoring drive that used up a lot of clock.
The drive culminated with a 15 yard scoring pass from Zuchowski to Jeff Patterson. Jason Kennedy, who finished the day with 84 yards on 18 carries, had 24 of his yards and seven of his totes on the drive.
Wellsboro's defense played well on the day, limiting the Bulldog offense to only 119 total yards, 81 on the ground and 38 via the air.
Zuchowski completed seven of 11 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. He also grabbed two interceptions on defense.
This Saturday, September 17, the Hornets travel to Horseheads (NY) for a non-league matchup.
