Bald Eagle Nittany running back Jim Renninger rushed for 271 yards and three touchdowns to lead his team to a 26-20 win over Wellsboro Friday night in the Hornets' 1988 homecoming game.

The non-league loss drops Wellsboro's record to 2-4 on the year, 1-2 in Northern Tier League action.

The Hornets kept the game close on a pair of touchdown passes and a Jason Kennedy touchdown run.

Renninger put Bald Eagle Nittany on the board first with a nine yard scoring run in the opening stanza. The kick missed and Wellsboro trailed 6-0.

Kennedy's four yard scoring jaunt early in the second quarter and a missed extra point knotted the score at 6-6.

Wellsboro took a 12-6 lead when quarterback Jeff Zuchowski and wide receiver Aaron Singer hooked up on a 60 yard touchdown pass and run.

Tim Walker's 16 yard touchdown run late in the first half drew Bald Eagle Nittany into a 12-12 halftime tie. Renninger's second nine yard touchdown run was the only scoring of the third period, giving the visitors an 18-12 edge entering the fourth quarter.

A Zuchowski to Jeff Patterson 27 yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion run put the Hornets back on top 20-18.

Renninger's 18 yard touchdown and two-point conversion run closed out the scoring and improved Bald Eagle Nittany's season record to 3-2-1.

Patterson finished the evening as the Hornets' leading receiver, hauling in five balls for 93 yards and a touchdown. Jim Dempsey rushed 10 times for 39 yards to pace the Wellsboro ground attack.
