In a game dominated by the defense, the Canton Warriors eked out a 8-3 football win over Wellsboro Friday evening at Wellsboro.
The win puts Canton at 1-1 in Northern Tier League play and 1-3 overall. Wellsboro falls to 1-2 in NTL action, 2-3 overall.
All the storing took place in the second period. A 23 yard field goal by Wellsboro's Bill Doane gave the Hornets a short-lived 3-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Canton's Tim Spencer scored on a 24 yard run. The extra point try was missed, and there was no more scoring.
Wellsboro was a bit more effective offensively, but three lost fumbles and an interception were costly. Jim Dempsey led the Hornet ground attack, netting 82 yards on 11 carries.
This Friday night, October 7, Wellsboro squares off against Bald Eagle Nittany in this year's Hornet Homecoming contest! Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
