The Sayre Redskin football team scored earh and late in the first half then held off a second half Wellsboro rally to post a 13-12. Northern Tier League win at Wellsboro Friday night.
Sayre went on top 7-0 on their first possession of the game as Richard Horton scored on a two yard run. John Garrity's extra point boot was good.
The Redskin lead ballooned to 13-0 on the final play of the first half. Jason Wells hauled in a 62 yard scoring bomb from quarter back Paul Lougher
Jason Kennedy brought Wellsboro back in the second half with two scoring runs, one in each of the final two stanzas. Kennedy finished the night with 153 rushing yards on 23 carries.
In the third period Kennedy's 27 yard burst cut the Sayre lead to 13-6 The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Late in the game, Kennedy's three yard run closed out the scoring. Once again the conversion pass failed.
Jeff Patterson led the Hornet receiving corps hauling in three of Wellsboro's six completions for 42 yards.
Horton rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for Sayre. Wells caught both Redskin completions for 92 yards and the other score.
Wellsboro s record currently stands at 2-5 overall 1-3 in NTL action.
The Hornets are idle this week end. On Friday evening, October 28, they travel to Towanda to tackle the Black Knights in an 8:00 p.m. game.
