The Wyalusing Rams got a fourth quarter touchdown run from quarterback Mike McCarty to edge Wellsboro 16-15 in Northern Tier League football action at Wellsboro High School Friday evening.
The season-ending loss puts Wellsboro's final record at 2-7 overall, 1-5 in NTL action. A total of 14 points separated the Hornets from their opponents in the past five contests.
Wellsboro got a pair of second quarter touchdown runs from Jason Kennedy to take a 15-9 halftime edge. Kennedy, who finished the night with 142 yards on 22 carries, scored on two one yard runs.
Earlier, Wyalusing had taken a 9-0 lead on a Tom Bennett eight yard run and a 36 yard Eric Driggs field goal.
After a scoreless third stanza, McCarty scored the game tying touchown on a 17 yard run with just over nine minutes left to play. Driggs extra point boot proved to be the margin of victory.
In addition to Kennedy's 142 rushing yards, Kurt Benjamin rumbled for 30 yards on only two carries. Quarterback Jeff Zuchowski added 22 yards on 10 totes. Aaron Singer ran one time for eight yards and Jim Dempsey rushed four times for seven yards.
Dempsey hauled in the only pass completion for either team, a 23 yarder from Zuchowski.
