Kennedy smashes records in 44-0 win Monday.
| presented by: |
Although no accurate records were available at press time, Jason Kennedy's rushing yards Monday night are believed to be a Twin Tiers record.
Kennedy ran 21 times for 340 yards and six touchdowns as Wellsboro's Green Hornet football team rolled to a 44-0 win over Bucktail in a Homecoming game postponed from Friday night. Kennedy scored six times on runs of 13. 53, 77, 39, 5, and 18 yards. His six touchdown's tied a Northern Tier League record for touchdowns in a single game, set earlier this year by Canton's Shawn Machmer. Two of Machmer's scores came on passes however, so Kennedy holds the NTL record for rushing touchdown's in a game with six.
Oscar Umerez put Wellsboro up 3-0, booting a 28 yard field goal on the Hornets' first possession of the game. Umerez kicked five of six extra points on the evening. Kennedy's 13 yard scoring run in the second period put Wellsboro on top 10-0 at the half.
The Hornets exploded in the final two periods, putting 34 points on the scoreboard, 14 of them in the third quarter and 20 in the final stanza, all on Kennedy rushes. Jeff Zuchowski, Wellsboro quarterback, complimented Kennedy superbly with well timed pitches, often 10 or 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. As a result, Kennedy averaged 16.2 yards a carry.
The Hornet offense wasn't all that was in high gear on the night. The defense, led by Todd Wagaman's two interceptions, held the Bucks to only 130 yards of total offense. In addition to Wagaman, Seth Yost, Kurt Benjamin and Joey Hackett all played fine defensive games.
Jeff Patterson caught three of Zuchowski's four completions for 29 yards, Yost caught one for 33 yards. The 5-3 Hornets finished with 479 yards of offense, 417 yards on the ground.
Wellsboro travels to Sayre this Friday evening, October 27 for a 7:30 p.m. game versus the Redskins.
