The Wellsboro Defense completely stymied Columbia Montour Vo-Tech Saturday as the Hornets chalked up a 20-0 football win at Central Columbia High School.

The non-league victory improves Wellsboro's overall record to 4-3, 2-2 in Northern Tier League play.

Defensive domination was the name of the game for the Hornets, as they held Columbia Montour Vo-Tech to only nine yards of total offense and only one first down.

"Defensively we played a great game," said co-head coach Dave Lintal. "The entire defense did a super job, especially Seth Yost, George Dowling, Kurt Benjamin, Bryan Kilmer, Brent Ingerick, and Jack Johnson. Our defense has been doing the job all year. We have not allowed a point in any second half through seven games," Lintal added.

Saturday night, the closest the hosts could get to the Hornet end zone was the Wellsboro 30-yard line, following a turnover.

Wellsboro went on top 7-0 in the first period on a Jeff Zuchowski two yard quarterback keeper and an Oscar Umerez extra point kick. The score remained 7-0 until the third quarter, when Steve Miranda's 37 yard scoring run gave Wellsboro a 13-0 lead.

Jason Kennedy's five yard touchdown jaunt and a Umerez extra point in the fouth quarter made the final 20-0.

Kennedy led Wellsboro ground gainers with 98 yards on 26 carries. Miranda added 51 yards on only three attempts. Zuchowski rushed eight times for 40 yards.

Wellsboro wide receiver Jeff Patterson caught three of Zuchowski's seven completions for 51 yards.

In all, the Hornets ran for 210 yards and passed for 85 more.

This Friday night, October 20, Wellsboro hosts Bucktail in a 7:30 p.m. non-league game. It is Homecoming for the Hornets, as well as Parents' Night.
