The Wellsboro Hornet football team got off to a 1-0 start Friday night by downing homestanding Cowanesque Valley 34-0.
The Hornets dominated the game from beginning to end, racking up 366 yards of total offense, while holding the Indians to only 69.
In the first quarter, Wellsboro scored two touchdowns on a 16 yard Jason Kennedy run and a one yard blast by quarterback Jeff Zuchowski to take a 13-0 lead.
A 40 yard Zuchowski to Chad Cooney touchdown aerial upped the lead to 20-0 at the half.
Kennedy scored his second touchdown of the evening on a 33-yard scoring run in the third stanza as Wellsboro increased the edge to 27-0.
Kurt Benjamin's 10 yard scoring run in the fourth period ended the Hornet scoring.
Zuchowski was the leading Wellsboro ground gainer, running for 108 yards on 11 carries. Kennedy was right behind with 97 yards on 17 totes. Seth Yost averaged 12.7 yards per carry, as he finished with 70 yards on only six carries.
The Hornet ground game was in high gear all night, amassing 310 yards on 41 tries for a 7.6 yards per carry average.
Wellsboro's defense also dominated, holding CV to only 69 total yards, 26 rushing and 43 passing. In addition, the Indians managed only five first downs for the game.
The Hornets home opener is set for this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. versus Athens. The game is also Wellsboro's Northern Tier League opener.
