The Bucktail Bucks recovered two fumbles and returned them both for touchdowns in the first period enroute to a 57-0 football win over Wellsboro Friday night at Renovo.

The loss drops the Hornets to 1- 7 overall, 0-4 in Northern Tier League play.

The Bucks amassed 373 yards in total offense, 328 of it coming on the ground. Meanwhile, the Bucktail defense limited Wellsboro to 137 total yards, and also forced four Hornet turnovers.

Dave Pentz rushed for 109 yards on 14 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the impressive Bucktail ground attack.

Jon Cox and Keith Cavanaugh combined for 51 of Wellsboro's 66 rushing yards, Cox gaining 28 yards on 13 carries and Cavanaugh 23 yards on seven totes.

Cox completed five of 10 passes for 71 yards and one interception. Cavanaugh caught two balls for 50 yards, Ken Nowak had two receptions for 16 yards and Ryan Rieppel caught one for a five yard gain.

Jeff Francis and Bobby Riggle opened the Bucktail scoring in the opening stanza. Francis returned a Hornet fumble four yards for a score, Riggle scampered 26 yards to pay dirt with Wellsboro's second fumble. Both two-point conversion attempts were good and the Bucks led 16-0 early.

A 21 point barrage in the second quarter put the game away for the hosts.

Quarterback Gene Ransdorf scored on a one yard run, Pentz ran five yards and Ransdorf hit split end Luke Linberg with a 33 yard scoring aerial with only 20 seconds left until halftime.

Ransdorf ran five times for 52 yards and completed two of two passes on the evening.

Pentz's nine yard touchdown run and a successful two point conversion were all the scoring in the third period, as the Hornet deficit swelled to 45-0.

Don Gentzyel electrified the crowd with a 75 yard punt return in the fourth quarter to give the Bucks a 51-0 edge.

Jeff Francis closed out the scoring with a 10 yard touchdown run late in the game.

Wellsboro hosts Canton this Friday evening, October 26, in a Parent's Night contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Wellsboro High School field.
