Shawn Machmer rushed for 193 yards and scored a touchdown as the Canton Bulldogs posted a 27-0 Northern Tier League football win over Wellsboro Friday evening at Wellsboro.
The win improved Canton to 8-0 overall, 5-0 in NTL play. The Hornets dropped to 1-8 overall, 0-5 in league action.
In addition to Machmer's heroics, Reeve Mott ran for 87 yards on 12 carries and scored three Bulldog touchdowns. Canton rushed for 332 yards on the night and held a whopping 415 to 81 yard edge over the Hornets in total offense.
Even with the yardage disparity, Wellsboro trailed by only a touchdown, 6-0 at the half, on a Machmer nine yard scoring run in the opening stanza.
Mott put the game out of reach in the third quarter with touchdown runs of six and two yards.
The only scoring in the fourth period came on Machmer's third touchdown, this one another two yarder.
Keith Cavanaugh was the top Wellsboro ground gainer grinding out 61 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Jon Cox completed three of 13 passes for 24 yards.
The Hornets end their season on Friday, November 2 at Towanda versus the 6-3 Black Knights. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
