Cowanesque Valley tops Wellsboro, 27-0, Friday.

Quarterback Chris Adams ran for three touchdowns and running back Dan Costley churned out 146 yards of rushing offense to lead Cowanesque Valley to a 27-0 whitewashing of Wellsboro in the season football opener for both teams

The non-league game was played at the Wellsboro High School field Friday night, August 31.

The Indians were in control of the game from the beginning, churning out a total of 339 yards in rushing and total offense. Adams, a junior, got CV on the board with a one yard scoring run in the first quarter. Eddie Allen's point after put the Indians on top 7-0.

A 13 point second period gave Cowanesque Valley a commanding 20-0 halftime edge Adams scored his second and third touchdowns on the night, going in from one and three yards out.

Allen's 14 yard third quarter touchdown run and his extra point closed out the scoring.

Costley averaged 7 7 yards a carry as he totalled his 146 yards on 19 totes. Allen finished with 65 yards on 10 carries Dan Wilson, a freshman, added 57 on only seven carries, while Adams had 50 yards on 15 carries.

Hornet quarterback Jon Cox ran nine times for 39 yards to lead the Wellsboro rushing attack. Rick Robinson added 36 yards on 13 carries, while Keith Cavanaugh had 31 yards on six tries.

Cox also completed two passes for 36 yards, both of them to Ken Nowak.

The Hornets next game is scheduled for this Friday night, September 7 at Troy.
