Rick Robinson scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Wellsboro to a 12-3 football win over visiting North Penn Friday night, September 21.
The Hornets are currently 1-3 on the 1990 season North Penn is 0-3.
The Panthers got on the score board first when Rod Davis kicked a 21 yard field goal early in the second quarter.
Seconds later, however, the momentum changed when Robinson fielded the Panther kickoff on his 13-yard line and scampered 87 yards for a Wellsboro touchdown. The extra point boot missed, and the half came to a close with the Hornets on top, 6-3.
After a scoreless third period, a two yard Robinson touchdown run in the final stanza put the game away.
The Hornet defense keyed the win, effectively stifling the North Penn passing game, especially in the second half Wellsboro's defense knocked down four passes and held North Penn to three completions in 12 attempts.
Keith Cavanaugh and Robinson spearheaded the Hornet ground game. Cavanaugh ran for 62 yards on 13 tries, Robinson had 60 yards on 19 carries.
Quarterback Jon Cox completed a pair of passes in six attempts, both going to Ken Nowak for a total of 23 yards.
Darren DeVoe led all rushers, gaining 70 yards on eight carries, for the North Penn offense. Matt Toner added 63 yards on 16 rushes.
