Horton leads Sayre past Wellsboro, 34-6.

Sayre's John Horton carried the ball 21 times for 170 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Redskins to a 34-6 football win over Wellsboro Friday night at Wellsboro.

The win improved Sayre's record to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in Northern Tier League play. Wellsboro is currently 1-4 overall, 0-3 in NTL action.

Horton scored in each of the first three quarters on a pair of three yard runs and a five yard burst. The Redskins other tallies came on a six yard Jason George run in the opening period and a 20 yard pass from Steve VanBuren to Roland Sweet in the final stanza.

Wellsboro's lone touchdown came in the second period on a 25 yard pass from Jon Cox to Josh Ziemak.

Sayre led 14-0 after one quarter and 21-6 by the half, to cruise to their third victory in four outings this season.

The Redskins amassed 306 total offense yards, 224 of them coming on the ground. VanBuren also completed five of six passes for 82 additional yards and one score.

Quarterback Cox led the Hornets' rushing attack with 64 yards on 12 carries. He also completed five of 20 throws for 69 yards and a touchdown.

All five of Cox's completions went to different receivers, Ziemak's going for 25 yards and a score. The other completions went to Aaron Short (15 yards), Ken Nowak (14 yards), Keith Cavanaugh (10 yards), and Eugene Sticklin (5 yards).

On Saturday, October 6, Wellsboro travels to Athens for a 1:30 p.m.
