Troy rips Hornets, 34-0.

The Troy Trojan football team scored in every quarter enroute to a 34-0 win over visiting Wellsboro Friday night.

The win improved Troy's 1990 record to 2-0. The Hornets fell to 0-2.

Kelly West led the attack with 65 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Dan Hoppaugh was next, finishing with 45 yards and a touchdown on 10 totes, while Trojan quarterback Scott Hicks added a pair of scores and 37 yards to the rushing total.

Troy completed only four of 12 passes on the evening, but the four catches accounted for 98 yards.

A grind-it-out Trojan ground game kept the Wellsboro offense on the sidelines throughout much of the contest as seven Troy runners combined for 192 rushing yards.

Troy's first score came on West's one yard run in the opening stanza. The point after was blocked and Troy led 6-0 after one quarter.

A Hoppaugh one yard touchdown run followed by a successful Hicks to Larry Matthews two-point conversion pass gave the Trojans a 14-0 halftime lead.

Two short Hicks scoring runs in the third period put the game out of reach. The first came on a one yard sneak and the second on a two yard run.

Mike Cummings closed out the scoring, going over from five yards out in the fourth period.

The Hornets, who were held to only 39 offensive plays on the night, got 47 rushing yards from Keith Cavanaugh on only five carries. Rick Robinson added 21 yards on 10 tries.

Wellsboro hosts Wyalusing this Friday night, September 14.
