Chris Morral accounted for 239 yards of total offense for Wellsboro Saturday afternoon, but the Hornets came out on the short end of an 18-12 football score versus Canton at Canton.

Morral rushed 20 times for 135 yards and added 104 more yards on a pair of pass receptions, one of them a 66 yard touchdown. In the process, Morral was nominated to the PIAA Big 33 checklist for his outstanding effort.

Canton scored on a 46 yard run by Kelly West in the opening stanza to take an early 6-0 lead. Morral's 66 yard catch and run knotted the score at 6-6 later in the first quarter.

The score remained tied until a four yard scoring run by Ian Roberts put the Warriors back on top 12-6 midway through the third period.

Brandon Riddall's six yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave Canton what seemed to be a comfortable 18-6 lead.

Wellsboro came storming back late however, scoring on an 11 yard Neil Bogaczyk run with just under three minutes left to play.

They got the ball back for one more try at the win, but time expired after a long pass completion from Hornet quarterback Chad Watters to Morral had put the ball at the Canton 30-yard line.

West finished as Canton's leading ground gainer, churning out 106 yards on 18 totes.

Watters completed seven of 18 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, after missing the Hornets' first game against Lake Lehman with a shoulder injury.
